Aachen — Charlemagne's imperial capital — is Germany's westernmost city, at the point where Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands converge. The Aachener Dom (UNESCO), completed in 805 on Charlemagne's orders, is the oldest cathedral in northern Europe and contains the finest Carolingian treasury in existence. The CHIO Aachen is the world's largest equestrian sports event.
