Regensburg — one of Germany's most beautiful medieval cities — is the best-preserved city of Roman origins in Germany, its UNESCO World Heritage historic centre featuring the Gothic Cathedral of St Peter, the Walhalla monument, and the Steinerne Brücke (Stone Bridge, 1146). The city was the seat of the Imperial Diet for 150 years and the permanent seat from 1663 to 1806.
