Würzburg — the northern terminus of the Romantic Road — is presided over by the Marienberg Fortress and the Würzburg Residence, one of the most important Baroque palaces in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace's ceiling fresco by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1752-1753) is the world's largest fresco, covering 670 square metres. The Franconian wine region produces Germany's finest silvaner and riesling.
